We’re so excited you’re joining in. You’re going to make an awesome Team Captain! Your next step is to recruit your teammates. Each team can have up to five bowlers. If you’ve got more than five, no problem — just split into two teams! We’ll make sure your lanes are side-by-side so you can still enjoy bowling together. Wait… what does a Team Captain do? Team Captains are the go-to person for each team and the first to register. When registering, you’ll create your team name — then share it with your teammates. Each teammate will register individually, select “Join a Team,” and pick your team name from the dropdown menu. We’re all registered! Do we just show up and bowl? Almost! Because Bowl For Kids’ Sake is the only fundraiser where 100% of proceeds support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bartholomew County, we ask each team to set a fundraising goal of $500. It’s a fun, achievable goal — and every dollar makes a big difference. Don’t worry if you raise more (or a little less); it’s all for a great cause! But I’ve never raised money before! No problem! We’ve got you covered — scroll down for some simple fundraising tips and ideas to get started. Anything else I should know? The week before the event, all Team Captains will get an email with your team’s details, including bowling time and packet pickup info. Need to change your bowling time? No worries — just email Karina at karina@foundationforyouth.com Still have questions? Reach out to Karina anytime — by email or by phone at 812-348-4558 x208. She’s happy to help! 10 TIPS FOR FUNDRAISING SUCCESS Tip #1: Know your “why.” Fundraising is easy when you believe in the cause! Big Brothers Big Sisters changes lives and helps kids reach their full potential — people want to be part of that impact. Tip #2: Lead by example. Start by making your own donation. It shows your friends and family that you’re not only giving your time, but also personally investing in the mission. Tip #3: Aim high! Don’t be afraid to ask for a big gift — if you ask for $100 and receive $50, that’s still a win! Be sincere and focus on what matters: helping children in our community. Whether it’s $5, $25, or $100, every dollar helps kids succeed. Tip #4: Ask your way. Choose whatever feels natural — in person, over the phone, by email, or through social media. A genuine ask always goes a long way. Tip #5: Tap into your network. Spread the word in your community! Ask at club meetings, church groups, or social gatherings. People you already connect with are often eager to help. Tip #6: Get your family involved. Share your excitement (and these tips!) with family and friends. They can help spread the word and reach new supporters on your behalf. Tip #7: Host a mini fundraiser. Get creative! Sell snacks at work, organize a casual Friday, or come up with your own fun way to raise funds together. Tip #8: Celebrate and share your progress. Use social media to thank your supporters and highlight your success — your gratitude can inspire others to give too! Tip #9: Don’t worry about the “no’s.” If someone can’t give right now, thank them sincerely for their time. A “no” today might turn into a “yes” later! Tip #10: Remind donors — it’s tax deductible! Every donor receives an official receipt confirming their gift for tax purposes. It’s a win-win: they help local kids and receive a deduction. BE A VOLUNTEER! SIGN UP TODAY

LEARN MORE YOUTH-LED INITIATIVES The Torch Club A new initiative from Foundation For Youth, this group of 12 elected members represents the outward face of the Boys & Girls Club. Their mission is to make a difference in the community and be positive role models for their peers. Youth Ambassadors The Council for Youth Development (CYD), an initiative of Foundation For Youth, leads the Youth Ambassadors (YA) program. This program empowers Bartholomew County high school students in grades 10–12 who are dedicated to civic engagement and personal development. Youth Ambassadors take part in youth-led outreach projects, develop leadership skills, and advocate for equity within their communities. Each ambassador completes over 20 hours of community service and helps organize and participate in events such as International Youth Day, Spark Spirit Week, the Youth Empowerment Summit, and Global Youth Service Day. For many participants, the impact is life-changing. As former Youth Ambassador Bea Orben shares: “The community I found as a Youth Ambassador changed my senior year, my experience in Columbus, and my whole life. I learned to trust others’ support, see my strengths clearly, and believe in myself. Being a Youth Ambassador gave me the confidence to chase and achieve my goals.” Bea’s journey—from overcoming significant personal challenges to graduating with a 4.0 GPA, entering recovery, and pursuing architecture at Parsons School of Design—reflects the power of youth being seen, supported, and valued. ECHO: Empowering the Community with Hope and Opportunity CYD's new youth empowerment program, ECHO (Empowering the Community with Hope and Opportunity), a youth-led leadership council made up of high school students committed to creating positive change. ECHO brings together young leaders from across youth organizations to elevate youth voices, strengthen mental health awareness, and lead prevention-focused efforts. Through monthly meetings, service projects, and community events, ECHO members collaborate to influence programs, inspire hope, and turn ideas into action—proving that when young people have a seat at the table, communities grow stronger. Each month, Indiana Youth Services Association (IYSA) celebrates the work of one of the state’s youth service bureaus. In November 2023, The Foundation for Youth was featured. Building Stronger Futures Together For nearly 100 years, Foundation For Youth (FFY) has been a cornerstone of support, opportunity, and connection in Bartholomew County. Through a comprehensive network of prevention, enrichment, and intervention programs, FFY serves youth, families, and adults—meeting community needs today while building a healthier, more resilient future. At the heart of FFY’s work is a belief that every young person deserves access to safe spaces, caring relationships, and meaningful opportunities to thrive. From early childhood through young adulthood, FFY’s programs are designed to promote positive mental health, academic success, physical wellness, and lifelong skills. Prevention, Mental Health, and Community Well-Being FFY’s Prevention Initiatives work collaboratively with community members, coalitions, and partners to promote positive mental health and address substance misuse across Bartholomew County. Funded by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions and the Office of National Drug Control Policy, this work raises awareness, delivers evidence-based education in schools and community settings, and creates free, family-friendly, substance-free events that foster connection and belonging. By strengthening protective factors and empowering youth and families with knowledge and skills, Prevention Initiatives help reduce risk and support long-term well-being. Crisis Intervention and Immediate Support Safe Place is a national crisis intervention and prevention program for youth in need of immediate help. As the licensed Safe Place agency, FFY coordinates a county-wide network of schools, fire stations, libraries, and trusted community locations marked by the recognizable Safe Place sign. When young people face crisis—Safe Place ensures they are never alone and are quickly connected to safety, support, and long-term resources. Building Trust. Inspiring Growth. Creating Change. Foundation For Youth’s commitment to emotional well-being is grounded in Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI), a trauma-informed, evidence-based framework used across the organization to respond to youth and families with compassion, connection, and purpose. Alongside TBRI, FFY integrates Developmental Assets, Developmental Relationships, and LifeSkills to create safe, supportive spaces where children and teens can thrive — building confidence, resilience, and meaningful connections with caring adults. One powerful example of this work in action is the TBRI: Foundation For Hope Camps, which bring these practices to life through free, trauma-informed camp experiences at Columbus Youth Camp for families navigating foster care, system involvement, and the effects of trauma. Guided by trained staff and volunteers, families engage in empowering, connecting, and corrective practices that strengthen trust, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships. In partnership with agencies such as Johnson County Court Services, HopeAlight, and the Department of Child Services Region 14, these camps fill a critical gap — supporting healing, strengthening families, and building a more resilient community. At Foundation For Youth, we believe every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued. Through these integrated, research-based approaches, youth are empowered to: Build trust and meaningful connections Strengthen emotional regulation, resilience, and self-awareness Grow confidence, decision-making skills, and positive values Feel seen, heard, and respected in consistent, caring environments Academic Success, Belonging, and Opportunity A cornerstone of FFY’s impact is the Boys & Girls Club at Foundation For Youth, which provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment every day after school until 6:30 p.m., as well as full-day programming during summer and school breaks. Serving youth ages 5–18, the Club is a vital support system for working families, particularly those facing financial hardship. Through a sliding fee scale and scholarships, no child is turned away due to cost. The outcomes are powerful: 67% of members return year after year 89% earn mostly As and Bs 90% are on track to graduate high school Summer Learning Lab participants showed an average 16% improvement in English Language Arts and Math Through programs such as Power Hour, Summer Brain Gain, DIY STEM, Maker Space Studio, Tech Lab, SMART Girls, Passport to Manhood, and career exploration through Indiana Kids, the Boys & Girls Club builds academic confidence, social-emotional skills, and future readiness. In addition to learning and enrichment, FFY meets a critical basic need: nutrition. Last year alone, the Club provided more than 11,000 meals and snacks. The Club has expanded to offer a daily hot afterschool meal—ensuring youth have the nourishment they need to focus, learn, and grow. Mentorship That Changes Lives Big Brothers Big Sisters , a program of Foundation For Youth, strengthens the community through one-to-one and small-group mentoring relationships that empower young people to reach their full potential. By pairing youth with caring, consistent adult mentors, BBBS helps build confidence, resilience, and hope—creating relationships that can change the course of a young person’s life. Innovative programs like CHARGED (Creating Holistic Achievement through Role Models, Guidance, and Empowerment for the Development of Teens) support teens ages 14–18 through small-group mentoring focused on life skills, relationships, and future readiness. Participants often form lasting bonds that continue beyond high school. As former CHARGED participant Makenna England shares: “While I was in high school, I wasn’t really involved in anything until I was invited to join the CHARGED program. It was the best decision I could have made. Connecting with Megan has changed my life… Now that I have graduated, Megan and I meet up for coffee or lunch and talk about life. I also know that someday I will be a coach for the CHARGED program and be to someone what Megan was and still is to me.” The impact of these relationships is deeply personal. As Big Sister Cathy King shares: “Being a Big Sister has been an incredible experience. The moments I cherish most were the simple ones—grabbing a coffee, baking cookies together, or just chatting during the drive home from school. Those everyday moments became the most meaningful. I’m deeply grateful to BBBS for connecting me with Leonia, and I know this relationship will continue for many years to come.” Through relationships rooted in trust, consistency, and care, Big Brothers Big Sisters helps shape a more connected, resilient Bartholomew County. Health, Wellness, and Recreation for All FFY’s Athletics and Aquatics programs promote physical health, confidence, and community connection through inclusive, affordable opportunities for all ages. From basketball, volleyball, and pickleball to swim lessons, water aerobics, and lap swimming, these programs support lifelong wellness. Adventure, Exploration, and Outdoor Learning Columbus Youth Camp has inspired generations of young people through outdoor adventure and experiential learning. Situated on 137 scenic acres, the camp offers activities such as hiking, archery, STEM, arts, athletics, and team-building experiences. The natural environment serves as an active classroom—helping youth build confidence, life skills, and a lasting appreciation for the world around them. STAY IN THE KNOW! COUNCIL FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY The Council for Youth Development (CYD) is a cross-sector coalition that aligns efforts to advance a culture of positive youth development in Bartholomew County. We envision a community where all youth and families are reaching their full potential. Since 2005, CYD partner organizations have represented a cradle to career continuum serving and advocating for youth, birth to young adult, and their families throughout Bartholomew County. Beginning in 2017, CYD became an active community partner with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation’s Counseling Counts Initiative . Essential to our collective work is the commitment to expand 40 Developmental Assets® and Developmental Relationships® training and resources for youth, families, and professionals to improve social-emotional health community-wide. In 2018, CYD designed the county’s first Youth Master Plan prioritizing the well-being of our youngest residents. This community-wide commitment strengthened cross-sector collaboration and continues to focus on breaking down barriers and pursuing innovative solutions for all young people. Essential to improving upon this foundational work was the establishment of the Guiding Principles for Positive Youth Development by the Bartholomew County Youth Services Guiding Team and the launch of our Youth Development of Index in 2020*. In 2022, CYD revised and published our Vision 2025 Youth Master Plan with the help of our growing coalition partners, diverse stakeholders, and dedicated staff. This bold blueprint for our community will help us align our work and maximize resources to improve outcomes for children, teens, and young adults living in Bartholomew County. In 2025, CYD joined forces with the Foundation For Youth as one of its Program Initiatives. LEARN MORE BECOME A YOUTH AMBASSADOR!
